ANIMA — PIEMONTE BARBERA PASSITO

ANIMA — PIEMONTE BARBERA PASSITO

A wine of the soul: over-ripe Barbera grapes from Monferrato, left to dry on the vine to concentrate sweetness, fruit and complexity. A meditation red that speaks of Moasca.

  • Features

    Colour

Anima displays a deep ruby red colour with attractive violet reflections, immediately suggesting richness, concentration and depth.

    Aroma

The bouquet is broad, enveloping and beautifully complex. Elegant aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum are enriched by notes of fruit preserve, with delicate hints of vanilla and tobacco adding further warmth and sophistication. The natural drying of the grapes gives the wine exceptional aromatic intensity and complexity.

    Taste

On the palate, the wine is full, soft and well structured. The use of over-ripe grapes creates excellent concentration and a pleasing roundness, while the natural freshness of Barbera keeps the wine balanced and vibrant. Velvety tannins lead into a long, harmonious and persistent finish, with lingering notes of ripe fruit and sweet spice.

    Food Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with stuffed pasta, roasted meats, slow-cooked braises and game. It is also an excellent match for aged cheeses and traditional Piedmontese cured meats.

    Serving Temperature

Serve between 15–16°C to fully appreciate its richness, structure and aromatic complexity.

    Appellation and Origin

Anima is classified as Piemonte Barbera Passito DOC and is produced in Moasca, Asti.

    Grape Variety

The wine is made from 100% Barbera grapes, giving it the vibrant freshness and expressive fruit character associated with the variety.

    Vineyard

The vineyards are situated at an altitude of approximately 200–300 metres, with a southerly aspect that allows the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness.

    Harvest

The grapes are harvested by hand in late September, using carefully selected over-ripe clusters to achieve greater concentration, sweetness and complexity.

    Soil

The vines grow in the distinctive Asti Sands, composed of calcareous-clay marl. These soils contribute to the wine’s structure, mineral character and depth.

    Cellaring Potential

Anima can be enjoyed now, but it also has the structure to develop beautifully in bottle for up to seven or eight years.

    Winemaking

The grapes are hand harvested and allowed to over-ripen naturally on the vine. After gentle destemming, they undergo an extended maceration followed by a slow fermentation at a carefully controlled temperature.

    Ageing

The wine is aged for 12–18 months in French oak barriques, followed by at least six months of bottle ageing before release. This extended maturation adds complexity, smoothness and refined notes of vanilla and spice.
