Barbera d'Asti D.O.C.G. Superiore "Il Vecchio"

Barbera or, as we say in Piedmont, Barbera is one of the red wines that has made Piedmont known in the Barbera is produced in the various wine-growing regions of Piedmont, but Barbera d'Asti DOCG is internationally recognized for its unique characteristics given by a terroir that enhances the structure and elegance of this wine to the maximum.

 

After a maceration of 20 days, the Barbera Superiore "Il Vecchio" finishes alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks where then, keeping the temperature close to 20 ° C, malolactic fermentation takes place. In spring, it is racked and left to age for about two years in 5 Hl barriques and tonneaux.                                                                                                             

 

After about 3 years from the harvest it is ready for bottling, and the Barbera d'Asti Superiore "Il Vecchio" after resting in the bottle for six months will be able to give great satisfaction to those looking for full and structured wines.

    Colour

    This Barbera d'Asti Superiore displays a deep, vibrant ruby red colour, reflecting its richness, maturity and exceptional concentration.

    Aroma

    The bouquet is rich, elegant and beautifully complex. Layers of ripe red fruits are complemented by refined tertiary aromas, with subtle woody notes and delicate hints of vanilla developed through careful ageing in oak. The result is a wonderfully balanced and sophisticated nose.

    Taste

    On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, velvety and beautifully harmonious. The natural freshness of the Barbera grape is perfectly balanced by its generous structure and well-integrated alcohol, creating a wine with remarkable depth, smoothness and a long, satisfying finish.

    Alcohol Content

    This wine has an alcohol content of 14–15% ABV, depending on the vintage, delivering excellent body while maintaining elegance and balance.

    Cellaring

    Although this Barbera d'Asti Superiore begins to show its full character after around one year in bottle, its exceptional structure allows it to age beautifully for up to ten years, rewarding patience with even greater complexity and refinement.

    Serving Temperature

    For the best tasting experience, serve between 16–18°C.

    Food Pairing

    This is an outstanding wine for rich and flavoursome cuisine. It pairs exceptionally well with traditional Piedmontese dishes, including slow-cooked stews, braised beef cooked in Barbera, roasted meats and game. Its depth and complexity also make it an excellent companion to mature hard cheeses and rich blue cheeses, creating a memorable dining experience.
